The High Pressure Test Bench

We have built a new test bench!

For a current project, we have developed a high-pressure test bench for catheters for Vygon Germany – and it's quite something.

In two separate temperature-controlled tanks (one with water, one with a water-glycerin mixture, both at 37 °C), the catheters are literally put under pressure. This allows for two standard-compliant tests to be performed:

- Flow test – also known as high-pressure injection test (but who can pronounce that?). This test checks whether the required pressure is achieved across the catheter at a defined flow rate.

- Burst test – the catheters are gradually subjected to increasing pressure until they burst. Bursting them was particularly fun during development!

The test bench must cover a wide range of catheters - from very small to particularly large variants. Accordingly, extreme pressure levels and flow rates must also be possible. In addition, there are other functions and requirements that have made the system quite complex.

The development was an enormous challenge, but we think the result is more than impressive!

Here is an overview of the key data

- Burst test according to ISO 10555-1 Annex F

- High-pressure injection test according to ISO 10555-1 Annex G Test B

- Flows from 0.1 ml/s to 20 ml/s

- Pressure levels from 0.5 bar to 30 bar

- Reproducible results (The test bench is fully qualified)

- Easy handling and reduced workload for employees
